Downtown Wake Forest
The town of Wake Forest dates to the late 19th Century. It formerly was the home of Wake Forest University that moved to Winston-Salem in 1956. That campus became Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. The local history museum is well worth a visit. The museum is located in a residential area of Victorian homes, many of which are listed on the National Register. The town is home to the classical music station WCPE, which now reaches in coverage internationally via the world wide web. The Carolina Theater Company performs several Thales Academy student productions each year.

The small downtown business district has been revitalized with new sidewalks and lighting. The city itself has grown rapidly in the past 20 years as a suburb of Raleigh and is spread over many miles. The primary shopping area is located along US Hwy 1. It is located close to Falls Lake and a large recreational area. It has a commuter bus service to downtown Raleigh. The Covid-19 Pandemic grew the number of people working from home, which became an advantage for smaller cities with fewer large venues and/or office towers. For those who choose to imbibe, the area has five local breweries. The town is only 20 miles from the RDU airport.
