
The pandemic almost shut down most LGBTQ+ groups except for Zoom meetings. Things are opening up again. There are several groups on Meet-up, but not all of them have web sites for further information.
The LGBT Center of Raleigh has two locations: an office on Hargett St., and a meeting space on N. Blount St. It sponsors numerous programs, events, resources, and groups. If you get on their mailing list, you will receive a monthly calendar of events.
There is a similar facility in Durham: the LGBTQ Center of Durham. It has a directory of LGBT businesses and allies. It is located in downtown Durham. Among the various programs, are the annual Pride Parade and Festival each September. For a listing of events, see the online calendar on their web site.
Although it has no facilities, it is perhaps the largest and most active group: Triangle LGBTQ Group. It has connected circles on Meet-up, Outreach through support groups, workshops, and more; and Volunteer Services. Join on MeetUp where you will find a list of events and activities. Sometimes you will need to register for a specific event in addition to RVSP on Meet-up.
The professional networking group is Harmony NC. The subtitle is NC LGBT+ Allied Chamber of Commerce. It has a free monthly social reception and a formal monthly dinner meeting with a program and speaker that requires a RSVP. It is a membership organization, primarily for entrepreneurs and business leaders.
The senior citizens group is the Carolina Aging Alliance. The Carolina Aging Alliance was formerly known at SAGE-Central NC. It hosts several in-person and online events each month. The Triangle group also works in connection with the Triad group and also hosts a monthly meeting at the Senior Center in Chapel Hill.
The group for parents, family, and friends of LGBTQ+ people is PFLAG Triangle which hosts two virtual support meetings a month. It also sponsors an annual ad in the Independent Weekly listing individuals and groups supporting the community.
The literary group known as the Mary Renault Society hosts a monthly pot-luck dinner with a speaker and is a private membership organization. To apply, go to their web site.
The Triangle Area Gay Scientists (TAGS) is another meet-up group. You can join them on MeetUp.com. It has monthly pot-luck meetings at members’ homes. It is a private membership group. To apply, go to their meet-up page.
St. John's MCC is the local congregation of the Metropolitan Community Church that was established in 1976 and offers a wide range of services. It is considering expanding to providing services in Charlotte, Wilson, and Jacksonville.
The local chapter in the Triangle of an all-volunteer national group is Gay for Good.org. The group provides volunteers to support the programs of dozens of non-profit organizations in the area.
Out! Raleigh Pride is the annual street fair/festival held in downtown Raleigh each year. After a hiatus of a couple of years due to the pandemic, it resumed last June.
Each year the Carolina Theatre in downtown hosts a LGBTQ+ film festival. It returned to an in-person event this year after a couple of years as an online event due to the Pandemic. OUTSOUTH Queer Film Festival
